The Sustainability Management Team, or SMT, provides the management direction and leadership for the NEMS. They oversee the NEMS Implementation Team by approving each year’s objectives and ensuring that the NEMS has the resources and guidance to be effective. The SMT is comprised of managers representing the functional areas across NIH to ensure that the NEMS is successful across the NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) and aligns with the NIH's strategic objectives. The SMT is kept apprised of progress made towards the NEMS objectives by the NEMS Implementation Team. The SMT also performs the annual management review to ensure that the NEMS continues to be successfully deployed throughout NIH. The SMT meets at least quarterly.
